Abstract 2004-2017

INSPIRATION

I see beauty all around me, whether it be the decay of different materials such as layers of partly peeled off paint on an old door or rusty industrial container, the straight architectural lines of concrete buildings or the natural beauty of a landscape seen from afar. I have always been sensitive to the visual of my surroundings and the mood it sets. My work is the result of an ongoing fascination for nature. I am drawn to the horizon, the point where water meets earth, earth meets sky. The inspiration it gives me and the sense of gratitude of being there in that moment taking it all in and wanting to « steal » a little piece of that to bring back home with me.

Techniques

My techniques vary depending on the support I use. For example I will use acrylic or oil paint on canvas applied mainly with painting knives or even cardboard. I apply paint and other emulsions in layers over several days or weeks until I have achieved the desired effect. My work on ceramic tiles consist of submerging the tiles in water and pouring acrylic paint. This will be repeated several times and then covered with clear varnish. I am also currently experimenting with steel sheet, paint and rust.
